Tuesday's Headlines

These are the headlines that caught my eye today:

In the headlines, the investigation into the bombing in Boston continues.  Authorities have revealed the identity of another victim, and that the third, as yet unidentified victim; was a Boston area grad student.  Also it looks like some of the people in the area of the attack used the incident to steal expensive jackets from the official’s tent.  There is video of the apparent looting on-line.  Those who are trying to say some who were taking jackets for finishers may have a point, but many of them were leaving with more than one jacket.

The New York Yankees will play the song “Sweet Caroline” at tonight’s baseball game, to honor the city of Boston.

An envelope mailed to the office of Mississippi Republican Senator Roger Wicker has tested positive for the deadly poison, Ricin. 

One of the great play-by-plan announcers in pro football history has died.  Pat Summerall was 82, and had spent more than two decades as one-half of one of the great announcing duos in pro football history.  Former NFL coach John Madden was his partner.

Apparently, working to pass gun control is more important than attending the funeral of Margaret Thatcher.  President Obama, his wife Michelle and Vice-President Biden will all remain in D.C. rather than go to the funeral, which will be held tomorrow.  The gun control issue is being listed as the reason they will all skip the funeral.

In Terrebone Parrish, Louisiana, leave the baggy pants at home.  A new ban on baggy pants (and skirts) that show one’s underwear or bare skin can lead to fines and community service.

A UK man has resigned from his job in a unique way, with a resignation letter done in frosting on a cake.

From the “stupid criminal” file:  A thief in Georgia who stole a bag from the car of a dentist, took the wallet from inside of it and tossed the bag into the garbage.  Big mistake.  The bag had roughly nine times as much cash inside of it as was in the wallet.

A lesbian couple from California has won a victory in court in Hawaii, after a B&B refused to accommodate them.  The judge ruled that the owner of the B&B cannot use her religious beliefs as an excuse to violate the state’s public accommodation law.

Bradley Cooper is very successful, but at the moment he is living with his mother.  It’s not because he can’t afford his own place, he moved in with his mother following the sudden death of his father.

The family of Audrie Pott, the 15 year old California teen who took her own life after she was raped by three 16 year old boys at a party plan to file a wrongful death lawsuit against the boys.

The traditional gift for a 40^th anniversary is a ruby.  Now a bar in Maine celebrating its 40^th anniversary is selling a cocktail for $40,000.  Or you can buy it for just $18 but that version doesn’t come with the 4 carat ruby.

A PA fireman was fighting a fire and had to fight off the dog that lived at the property at the same time.  Neither the fireman or the dog was seriously hurt.
