Trump's got no trump cards

Apparently Donald Trump has only one position on all of the issues facing our nation.  Immigration reform is the only position listed on the Positions tab on his campaign website.  You know, the self-funded campaign that's seeking donations and selling merchandise just as fast as it can.

Breitbart.com is running a piece that claims government at the federal, state and local levels will save over $700,000 for each illegal immigrant that is deported.  To call the conclusions reached in the report from 2010 by the Federation for American Immigration Reform that they are citing "specious" is generous.  For example, this report claims that all levels of government spend roughly $52 billion annually on primary and secondary education for illegal immigrant children in the U. S.

The Center for Education Reform estimates the K-12 population in the U.S. at right around 55 million.  Governing.com cites U. S. Census Bureau data to estimate per pupil spending in the U.S. at around $10,700 annually.  That's total spending, instructional spending is less than $7,000 per pupil annually. That's over $588 billion annually.  So if FAIR is right, spending on illegals is a little over 10% of the total.

The problem is there aren't 5.5 million illegal aliens attending public schools in the U. S.  The actual amount is less than 1 million, according to multiple sources.  So their education spending numbers just don't add up.

Then there is the matter of this FAIR report claiming illegals are receiving SNAP, welfare and subsidized housing.  There is a grain of truth to this, but not in what they want you to believe.  Families headed by an illegal immigrant do receive these benefits, but because there is an American citizen in the household.  Referred to derisively in this report as "anchor-babies" it is these children who have every right to receive these benefits that make it appear these monies are going directly to illegal immigrants.

The bottom line here is that like everything else about the Trump for President campaign, their claims just don't add up.  There is no big savings to be realized by deporting over 11 million illegal immigrants.
