Where were you when...

We get asked that question all the time with various dates/times correlating with certain major events.  Some of the dates we get asked about most frequently are:

November 22, 1963 (Kennedy Assassination)
July 20, 1969 (First manned moon landing)
September 11, 2001 (Twin Towers and Pentagon attacked)
April 29, 1975 (Fall of Saigon)
November 10, 1989 (Berlin Wall comes down)
May 22, 1992 & May 14, 1998 & Feb 28, 1983 (the airing of the last episodes of The Tonight Show With Johnny Carson, Seinfeld and M*A*S*H, respectively)
October 3, 1995 (O. J. Simpson is found not guilty of the murders of Nicole Brown Simpson and Ronald Goldman)

So, where were you on August 16, 1977?  That is the day, 38 years ago, when Elvis Presley died.  I was in basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio.  I'd only been there eight days up to that point.  I remember walking back into the barracks after doing something away from our building and finding guys in my flight crying.  When I asked why, I was told that the King was dead and they couldn't talk about it.

The enormity of the impact of Elvis Presley on our society is almost impossible to exaggerate.  I'm aware of only two different groups/artists where a commercial radio station played only the music of that group/artist 24/7.  One was a Beatles station and the others were Elvis stations.  The music of Elvis Presley played around the clock on a lot of radio stations in the days following his passing.

So where were you when Elvis died?
