I'm having a lazy Sunday but these headlines still caught my eye

There are reports that the nine women who were in a limousine that caught fire on Saturday night on the San Mateo Bridge were en route to a bachelorette party.  The San Jose Mercury News is reporting that the bride-to-be was among the five women killed in the fire.  The investigation is ongoing.

In about an hour from now (it's 4:30 at this moment on the Left Coast), the debate between mayoral candidates Eric Garcetti and Wendy Gruel will be televised locally.  Gruel probably needs a miracle to have a chance at winning this election.

A soccer referee in Utah was punched in the face by an angry 17 year old goalie he gave a yellow card to.  Now that referee is dead and authorities may upgrade the charges against the goalie from assault to murder or manslaughter.

If you ever had a bad toothache and used Orajel to ease the pain, you have David Morris Kern to thank for having invented it.  Now, at the age of 103, he has died.

A Texas high school's 4 x 100 boys relay team won't be going to the state championship meet to compete, after their anchor leg runner was disqualified for "excessive celebration".  He pointed to the heavens as a sign of thanking God, and now people are saying the rules under which he was disqualified are a violation of his First Amendment rights.

A report is out claiming that the IRS's latest push to mine data to catch tax-cheats is working, but only on the poor and middle class.  Estimates are that there is $400 billion in tax "dodging" each year.

A man who owns 29 rare boa constrictors has won a reprieve from local officials regarding an order to get rid of them.

"Iron Man 3" had the second best opening weekend ever for a film, with $175.3 million.  No other film opened this weekend on more than 20 screens, and rightly so.  "Pain & Gain" dropped off to a second place finish with $7 million, followed by "42" "Oblivion" and "The Croods".  "The Iceman", an indie film about a real life hitman opened on only 4 screens and did a respectable $23,000+ per screen.

A Wisconsin high school junior who has Down's Syndrome has had a busy few days.  He won his event in the Special Olympics, and then his date to the junior prom was Miss Minnesota-USA.  Oh yeah, he was also selected as Prom King.  Nice job.

Meanwhile, a group of teens in Tennessee rented what they thought was going to be a luxurious party-bus to go to the prom but what showed up was a renovated yellow school bus that said "Free At Last" on both sides with an advertisement for a bail bond business.  Ooops.

A couple in Santa Rosa nearly lost their home, thanks to a new bowl for their dog. The shiny bowl concentrated a ray of sunlight on their wooden house and set it ablaze.  The fire was put out before spreading too far.

Was that really Reese Witherspoon sporting an Atlanta PD hat?  Yes, it was.  Suck-up.
