Monday Musings in May

White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders (should we refer to her as Sarah Huckster Sanders?) tweeted this:

You can be a supporter of empowering women without supporting every single woman, or any specific woman who isn't qualified for a position.  Did Ms Sanders support Hillary Clinton during the 2016 campaign?  No.  Why not?  Is she not a proponent of empowering women?

There are legitimate questions concerning Gina Haspel's involvement in waterboarding and destruction of evidence worth of exploring during her confirmation hearings.  Given the long history of the CIA covering up its own misdeeds, I do not trust an internal investigation that supposedly cleared her of wrongdoing.  If you want more info on how the CIA has worked since its inception, check out this book.

You may or may not have heard about the incident where two brothers who are Native Americans were stopped by campus police officers while on a scheduled tour of Colorado State University.

If you didn't read the article but want to read the apology offered by the university's president, it is available here.  I find this segment of it puzzling:

"Our hope is to speak with the family of the young men and to, at a minimum, reimburse their expenses and offer them another opportunity to visit our campus as VIP guests if they have any interest in doing so.  At this point, we are attempting to make that contact through social media as we have not been successful through other means."

The New York Times reached them.  Why can't the University?

From the "What Was He Thinking" file, former NFL player and longtime KGO sportscaster Mike Schumann has resigned from his gig with the TV station.  Video of Mr. Schumann swiping a jacket from the Golden State Warriors Director of Security surfaced.

Did his long service argue in favor of a second chance?  I don't think so.

Also from that file, what were the 200 or so employees of Fidelity thinking when they claimed reimbursement for 20% of the purchase price of computer equipment and then returned the purchase while keeping the reimbursement?

They were fired.

Latonia Shelecia Stewart is accused of a crime that is hitting people at their worst moment.  She allegedly used the obituary listings to identify homes that would be empty due to a funeral and then break in and rob those homes.

Police in Westchester County, NY laid a trap for her and arrested her with property in her vehicle that had been stolen in a February break-in.

Disgusting.

Senator John McCain has made it clear he does not want Donald Trump at his funeral.  I don't blame him.  Senator McCain is a war hero who spent years in a North Vietnamese POW camp.  Trump said he wasn't a hero and that he liked people who weren't captured.

Trump has said so many inappropriate things since he began his campaign for the presidency, it would take me days to list them all.  But this one really bugs me.  Trump is a coward.  A draft dodger.  "Cadet Bone Spurs" as he was labeled by another war hero, Senator Tammy Duckworth.

Trump doesn't deserve to attend Senator McCain's funeral, although I personally hope that Trump is long out of office before Senator McCain passes away.

New York's Attorney General Eric Schneiderman has resigned after a story accusing him of assaulting four women was published in the New Yorker.  This is his post-resignation explanatory Tweet:
