17 people shot at New Orleans Mother's Day Parade tops the headlines
A spokesperson for the New Orleans Police Department says 17 people were shot at a Mother's Day parade on Sunday, but that most of them were just grazed and few of the wounds were life-threatening. Police reported that they saw three suspects fleeing the scene in the aftermath of the shooting.
In the box office wars, it was a battle but "Iron Man 3" won the weekend with $72.4 million, although the just opened "The Great Gatsby" did very well with $51.1 million to finish second. "Pain and Gain", "Tyler Perry Presents Peeples" and "42" rounded out the top 5.
In the wake of network TV show cancellations, a look at the ratings for cable original programming is interesting. "Duck Dynasty", "The Walking Dead" "Game of Thrones" and "The Bible" did well in the ratings, while "Mad Men", "Girls", "Hot in Cleveland" and "Dallas" were among the shows that lost ratings share.
Much of the stuff that appears on Yahoo from their "contributors network" isn't all that interesting, but this piece was. It was a list of the top ten WWE wrestlers who should get one more match. That list, from the bottom up is: "Rowdy" Roddy Piper, The Iron Shiek, Kurt Angle, Jeff Hardy, Bret "The Hitman" Hart, Shawn Michaels, Mick Foley, Sting, Hulk Hogan and Steve Austin. I don't agree with every name on the list, but it's an interesting idea to ponder.
Seth Meyers will be moving into Jimmy Fallon's chair when Fallon moves into the Tonight Show gig next year.
LAPD has announced that they will no longer issue press releases or confirm incidents involving "swatting" of celebrities; saying that it appears that the press coverage is inspiring more and more of these "pranks".
John Lennon's first car was a Ferrari and now that particular car is up for sale at auction. The 1965 330GT 2+2 couple is expected to bring at least $250,000 when it is sold.
Tiger Woods won the Players Championship in Florida, his second time winning that title. It had been a dozen years since he last won what is called "the 5th major".
Spike Lee may have made the film "He Got Game", but Spike didn't get tickets for the Knicks/Pacers game in Indianaoplis. He offered a fan $40,000 for four court-side seats, but his offer was soundly rejected. Up top, Spike, and get some binoculars.
Titus Young is a former pro football player who seems bent on doing his level best to ensure he doesn't get another chance to play in the NFL. He is only 23, but he was arrested three times in the last week. Released by the Detoit Lions this past February, it looks like his opportunity for one more chance in the NFL are disappearing.
