It's funny how things work...

and how so many things swing like a crazy pendulum.

We have a new chef here and the food got better for awhile, and then started to go back downhill.  But the last few days have shown a sudden and dramatic improvement.  My favorite soup is cream of chicken with wild rice and I don't expect that to show up here.  But my second favorite is beef barley and the chef made some awesome beef barley soup Tuesday.  Yesterday we got the best ham steaks with our breakfast that I've seen here in my 20 some months here.

Life is also amusing.  Tuesday I interviewed and got a job.  Yesterday they called and asked me if I wanted to come in for an interview.  I laughed and told the lady I'd already been hired.  She apologized and said she'd just been handed the list of course graduates with passing scores and told to call all of them to see if they wanted to work.  I chuckled after we hung up.

There was an accident in West L.A. last evening during the commute hour.  Apparently there was a fatality.  I wonder if all of the people caught in the traffic were cursing whatever happened, not knowing that someone had died.

I'm also pondering people who completely ignore traffic signs.  I drove through an intersection where the street I was on crossed a main street that had construction going on with trenches dug and everything.  Both North and South travel had signs saying no right turn or left turn onto this street.  So why did we sit there forever waiting for someone to turn right?

We lost out on first place at trivia last night by 1/2 point.  Second or third time that's happened.

This morning my nose is all stuffy and I suspect I ate something yesterday that I'm allergic to.  Have to pay more attention today.

Fun with Classified Ads:

"Friendly natural health office is in need of an Office Manager/Front Office Assistant. Great production bonus games!"  Bonus checks, great.  Bonus games???

"Dear my soon to be life balance assistant-"  "Loving animals and being comfortable with all sizes of critters is required (hamsters to horses)."  I'm supposed to balance your life and that of an entire zoo, in your home?

From an ad for a "Fertility Agency Egg Donor Coordinator"  "We are searching for a warm, personable female."  Absent a 'bona fide occupational qualfication' you can't discriminate in hiring based on gender.  Dealing with clients who are all female doesn't qualify.

"looking for bartenders/mixologists with the following qualifications"  What's the difference between a bartender and a mixologist?  A professional degree or certification?

"Immediate openings for Opeators who can sew by hand."  Uh, operator means someone who operates a piece of equipment.  Sewing machine operator, yes.  Sewing by hand operator, no.

"The physical requirements described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions."  Obviously someone who has a HR expert on the payroll, or someone who has been sued under the Americans with Disabilities Act for failing to make accomodation for an applicant/employee.
