Monday News Items

Former NAACP Spokane, WA chapter president Rachel Dolezal appeared on the entertainment television news show "The Real" and when pressed, admitted that she is indeed of "white" descent.  In other top stories, Earth continues to take 365+ days to make each complete orbit around the Sun.

Reporter's note:  Why did they even bring this up?  Isn't this person's 15 minutes long since past?

David Poyet is a former customer of AshleyMadison.com, the website for people who want to cheat and he's attempting to file a class action lawsuit against the site.  He claims that he and other men who joined the site were deceived by claims there were more than five million female members of the site, when there were in fact as few as 12,000 real women on the site.

Reporter's note.  Maybe he can start a new organization - American Male Philanderers.  It would probably be a really big group, if any of these jerks had the guts to join.

Sunday night the Kansas City Royals were trailing in Game 5 of the World Series by a score of 2-0.  But the managed to win the game by a score of 7-2.  It was the franchise's 2nd World Series title and first since 1985.

Reporter's note.  Strange how I saw no news video of people rioting in celebration, no photos of police cars being burned.  Why is that?

That's dash-cam video of an Uber driver being assaulted by a passenger after he told the apparently intoxicated man to "get out of my car or I'll call the police."  Driver Edward Caban finally used pepper spray to send his assailant, 32 year old Benjamin Golden fleeing the vehicle.  Police arrested him moments later.  He has been charged with assault on a cab driver and public intoxication, both of which are misdemeanors.

Reporter's note:  Wonder if Mr. Golden's employer will take any action against him over this.  Wonder if Mr. Caban will get sued by Mr. Golden for failing to disclose he was recording the ride on a dash cam.  I think Uber should install dash-cams in the cars of all of their drivers to promote safety, and make the notice of rides being recorded part of the Terms Of Service for the Uber app.

CBS is bringing "Star Trek" back to the small screen.  The show will begin airing original episodes on the CBS network, but re-runs will only be available on the network's All-Access VOD service.  That service charges subscribers $5.99 per month.

Alex Kurtzman will be the executive producer, without his longtime collaborative partner, Roberto Orci.  Instead he will work with co-executive producer Heather Kadin.  She's an executive at Kurtzman's production company, Secret Hideout.

Reporter's note:  It will be interesting to see if this new show follows the canon of the original series and its spin-offs, or the reboot of the film franchise back in 2009.

I just felt like throwing this in.  Love this sequence from The Tonight Show.

Then I became obligated to throw in the originals.

Which led to this.

On Halloween night, 33 year old Jacqueline Eide snuck into the Omaha, NE zoo and she was on a mission.  She wanted to pet a tiger.  She snuck past security and got to the cage of Mai, an 18 year old Malayan tiger.  The problem is, apparently the tiger did not want to be petted and bit Ms Eide, causing severe injury to her hand.  To add insult to that injury, she was cited for criminal tresspass. She may lose one or more fingers due to her injuries.

Reporter's note.  An old limerick comes to mind:

There was a young lady of Niger
Who smiled as she rode on a tiger;
They returned from the ride
With the lady inside,
And the smile on the face of the tiger.
