Another band bails on SeaWorld and other eye-catching headlines

REO Speedwagon has become the latest musical act to pull out of a scheduled concert at SeaWorld in Orlando.  Other acts that cancelled on SeaWorld include Cheap Trick, Barenaked Ladies, Trisha Yearwood, Heart and Willie Nelson.  All of the acts reportedly made reference to the documentary film "Blackfish", which is very critical of the park's continued captivity of killer whales.

No one managed to match all five numbers plus the Mega number in Friday's drawing for the $425 million Mega Millions jackpot.  As a result, the jackpot for Tuesday night's drawing will be $550 million.  The jackpot for matching five numbers without the Mega number was over $3 million and no one in California managed to win that either.

Military retirees and those approaching retirement are outraged at one item in the most recent budget deal.  This item cuts one percentage point from the annual cost of living adjustments for military retirees who are not yet 62 years of age, and are not disabled.  When compounded, this so-called "small" reduction in benefits could result in a 20% reduction in the pay of a military retiree over the first 20 years of their retirement.  Since many military members retire in their mid 40s, this could cost them dearly.  More on this in my next blog.

On a related note, the proposal to close many of the military commissary stores has current active duty personnel and their families scrambling to figure out how to deal with the large increases in their grocery bills this will produce.  Buying the same groceries in a civilian store might cost a family of four more than $300 per month more.

Pennsylvania police claim that members of a fraternity from Baruch College aren't being cooperative as they investigate the death of a pledge during what is alleged to be a hazing ritual.

A Michigan man who was working as a greeter at a store was fired for leaving his post to help put out a fire in a car in the store's parking lot.

Lamar Odom is claiming that his friends are to blame for his continued cheating on his now estranged wife, Khloe Kardashian.  He says if his friends hadn't always been bringing girls around he wouldn't have been tempted.

Cooper Manning, the older brother of Eli and Peyton Manning was forced to give up his NFL dreams, but he's managed to amass a net worth of $15 million in his work as an energy broker.

The NFL fined Cody Wallace $7,875 for hitting another player in the groin, and Darnell Dockett the same amount for deliberately stepping on another player's hand.  Meanwhile, they fined Brandon Marshall $15,000 for wearing orange cleats.  This from a league that says it is very concerned about player safety.
